OCN, Studio Dragon, CJ ENM make statements about Seo Yea-ji’s appearance in drama ‘Island’
The teams behind Island have issued cautious responses regarding the appearance of It’s Okay To Not Be Okay actress Seo Yea-ji in the upcoming OCN drama.
On separate news reports that came out on April 13, an official from OCN and one from Studio Dragon and CJ ENM shared similar statements that said, “There has been no decision regarding the appearance of Seo Yea-ji in Island. The filming and airing schedules of Island remain undecided.” OCN is the cable network working on Island, while Studio Dragon, a subsidiary of media and entertainment outfit CJ ENM, is the production company behind the series.
The statements follow the news that the actress will no longer star in Island and that the script is being reworked in her absence because of her recent involvement in a controversy. The issue began with a report released by Korean media outlet Dispatch on April 12, which revealed that Seo Yea-ji had an unhealthy relationship with her alleged former partner, Mr. Queen actor Kim Jung-hyun. Seo reportedly manipulated Kim, resulting in his unprofessional behavior while working on the 2018 drama The Time.
Island is a webtoon-based, fantasy drama set in Jeju Island. It tells the story of evil beings who are looking for an opportunity to wipe humanity off the world. Seo Yea-ji is set to play an arrogant heiress who gets banished to the island, while Kim Nam-gil (The Fiery Priest) has been confirmed to essay the role of a monster hunter. The first installment of the seasonal drama is slated to air during the second half of the year.
